Version used here: Photoshop 7

NOTE
Open new document. This can
be either a blank page or color
filled with the paint bucket or a
gradient. Here, I have chosen a
ship at sea.
Select your second
picture. Now you should
have 2 photos showing
on your stage
Some versions of PS require
that you hit ctrl A to hold your
first photo in place while you
bring up others.
Now that the two are merged, go ahead,if
you like, and x out the original as it is no
longer needed.
Note your layer palette now looks like this.
The fun begins
Click on the icon in step 1. Note
the white box that has now opened
in the layers pallet. This new box is
going to allow us to remove or
replace parts of the sailor girl.
Step 2. Make sure you have
black/white selected, or this is
not going to work. With black as
the foreground color now select
the paint brush tool.
Select a
brush size
and, with
black as the
foreground
color, start
removing the
parts of the
girl photo you
don't want.
Note
background
ship image
remains
untouched.
Oops
Now with the her background removed, let's put her behind the ship.
With black selected, start removing her legs so the result looks like
the photo below.

make a
mistake?
No problem,
Just click
the curved
arrow and
make white
your
foreground
color. Then,
with your
paint brush,
restore any
part of the
image.
Toggle
between
black and
white as
needed.
Play with the
opacity slider
to get a nice
blend.
Let's merge the two photos together.
Select the move tool (see click)
holding down the left mouse button;
just drag it across and release.( IF
YOU WANT IT CENTERED, HOLD DOWN THE
SHIFT KEY.)
Try using the opacity/ flow options
to get the brush effect you want.
All done with the sailor girl.
Bring in more objects and just repeat the same process.
Remember, playing with the opacity levels makes all the
difference in how your overall image blends together.
Place her anywhere

When you get the
placement and
blend you like,
add a drop
shadow if you
